Bohboh is a boss in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby: Squeak Squad.

Physical Appearance[]

Bohboh is a fiery, owl-like creature with a raccoon-like tail that lives in Vocal Volcano. It has a red plumage with a yellow body, and a crescent-shaped mark on his chest.

Games[]

Kirby: Squeak Squad[]

During the battle, Bohboh will charge at Kirby any chance he gets. If it hits the pool of magma in the middle when it dives, though, it will take minor damage. This can be used to defeat it, similar to Mrs. Moley. Once it crashes, rocks and enemies (Pengy, Hot Head, and Sir Kibble) will fall down from the sky as he slowly flies back up; it won't crash if it dives offscreen and will return after a short amount of time. Bohboh can also fly left and right while dropping fireballs that can be used as ammunition against him and swoop down in an attempt to grab Kirby, if successful, Kirby will be thrown into the pool of magma. Defeating it will signify that Kirby has finished Vocal Volcano, and can move on to Ice Island.

The arena Bohboh is fought in also serves a large problem factor throughout the battle. It consists of a rocky platform (that Bohboh can occasionally try to arc down across in an attempt to hit Kirby) suspended above a large pool of magma. Flanking either side of the magma pool are two very small sections of solid ground. If Bohboh manages to get its clutches on Kirby during his charge attack, it will grasp him with his talons and throw him into the pool. This magma is also so hot that even Ice can't permanently freeze it and will only stay frozen for a couple of seconds (although doing so may add some temporary relief during the battle).

Etymology[]

This boss name may derive from the Japanese onomatopoeia for fire crackling, ぼーぼー/ボーボー (bōbō), and an owl's hoot, ほーほー/ホーホー (hōhō). It may also be a corruption of the word "Bubo," which is a genus of owl.
