Bombzways would rather carry stars than bombs, since stars are far less heavy than bombs. But orders are orders, and more often than not, Claycia's orders are: "Go drop some bombs!" What's a Bombzway to do?
— Figurine description • Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

Bombzway is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse.

Physical Appearance[]

Bombzway is a mint green creature with a beige underbelly. It has a pair of insect-like yellow wings connecting to its top. Thin black arms with green bracelets hang down from its shoulders. The enemy has yellow eyes, green eyelids, tiny eyebrows, and a mouth.

When angered, Bombzway's body turns salmon while its arm bracelets and eyes change to burgundy. The enemy's eyebrows arch and its mouth turns into a frown.

Games[]

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[]

Bombzways appear primarily in the stage Deploy the Kirby Tank!, though they appear in multiple other stages as well. They fly overhead, occasionally hovering in place before flying further. Some rush at Kirby directly, but most simply carry items on and off the screen. Bombzways tend to hold on to valuable items, such as Point Stars and Treasure Chests, and instead only drop hazardous mines.

Kirby Tank can shoot the enemies to attack them. Kirby's first shot will only enrage Bombzway; the second shot will defeat it. The player must destroy Bombzways in order to obtain their valuables.

Etymology[]

Bombzway's name is derived from the phrase "bombs away," which is what bombardiers in real life would yell after dropping explosives from military aircraft during a war.

Trivia[]

  • According to Bombzway's figurine description, these enemies receive their orders directly from Claycia herself.
  • Bombzways share various similarities to Boss Galagas from the Galaga arcade series. Both are insectoids, take two hits and change colors upon being hit, capable of carrying other entities (captured ships in the case of the Boss Galaga; stars or mines for Bombzways), and fly around attacking the player.
