Burrow underground with your mighty drill! You can use this to dodge enemy attacks. If you dig in certain spots, you might be able to sneak into off-limits areas! Heh heh…
— Gotcha Capsule Description • Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Drill is a Copy Ability in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

Games[]

Kirby and the Forgotten Land[]

Drill allows Kirby to burrow and navigate underground, and attack enemies from below.

Pencil Drill is the first evolution, granting an additional effect to the ability's moveset. The ability hat Kirby wears is a gray pencil sharpener with vibrant blue parts and gray bolts that has a pencil facing forward stuck to it. Whenever Kirby emerges from underground, a pencil will be shot out in front of him, which can damage an enemy or obstacle that would get in his way.

Twin Drill is the second evolution, as the ability hat is a dark red helmet adorned with a pair of gray drill attachments and a clear visor. The second drill allows Kirby to damage enemies above him while burrowed.

Trivia[]

Drill Pierce

Nintendo of America's tweet

  • The Nintendo of America Twitter account made a Tweet depicting the Drill ability, with the caption "Kirby’s drill will pierce the heavens!"[1] This is a reference to a quote from the anime series Gurren Lagann, "Your drill is the drill that will pierce the heavens!"
  • Whenever Kirby emerges from the ground using Pencil Drill, the colors of his pencil will change in a set sequence. By default, its colors are green and white; its second pair of colors is red and pink, and its third pair of colors is blue and yellow.
  • The Twin Drill evolution may be a reference to the "twin drill" pigtail hairstyle featured in various anime.
