Energy Spheres are golden, cog-shaped collectibles in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Collecting these items unlocks doors leading into Trial Rooms containing almost every Copy Ability, additional sub-games, and Challenge stages within the Lor Starcutter.
They are seen falling off from the Lor Starcutter during the game's introduction. The intro sequence as well as the UI shows that there are exactly 120 Energy Spheres to collect. Excluding boss stages, every stage in the game contains between three to five of them. After one has been collected, it will be replaced by a red Star worth 10 stars when the level is replayed.

Throughout the game, Magolor will inform the player when they have collected enough to unlock the next door. In dimensional rift areas, they are in the possession of Sphere Doomers and the fiends must be defeated to retrieve them. Collecting all 120 Energy Spheres will prompt Magolor to explain the origins of the Lor Starcutter. Speaking to him again after this will have him tell Kirby that he is an acquaintance of someone who knew Kirby particularly well.
Energy Spheres are found on Halcandra as well. After traveling to Halcandra, Magolor explains that he lost some of the Spheres before crashing on Planet Popstar. As for the Spheres in the dimensional rift areas, they are lost in transit throughout Another Dimension when travelling to Popstar.
- Assuming the player doesn't miss any Energy Spheres, when the player unlocks a Trial Room, he/she will always have exactly enough Energy Spheres, no more, no less.
- It is mandatory for Kirby to pick up the very first Energy Sphere in the game, but after that, the rest are optional.
