Apolo is an enemy in Kirby's Dream Land 3. Apolos make their first appearance in Grass Land.

Physical Appearance[]

Apolo is a simple brown cone with a pink upper section. The enemy has two shiny, circular eyes. Some Apolos have an alternate color scheme: a blue lower section and a light blue upper section. This variation of Apolo commonly appears in icy levels.

Games[]

Kirby's Dream Land 3[]

Apolo spins continually around trees or other rounded objects, and can hit the player when it is in the foreground. If Kirby inhales Apolo, he will recover a bar of vitality. The enemy is occasionally difficult to inhale due to its positioning; Apolo typically dwells high above the ground.

Etymology[]

Apolo's name is derived from Apollo (also known as Uproll), a kind of Japanese chocolate from Meiji Seika. Apollo chocolate is cone-shaped and has two different flavors: strawberry and milk chocolate or blueberry and milk chocolate. These two flavors directly correspond to Apolo's two different color palettes. The way Apolo restores Kirby's health when inhaled also refers to the fact that it is a chocolate. Apollo also happens to be the name of the Greek god of healing, which could possibly be a reference to the enemy's healing capabilities.

Trivia[]

  • Apolo is the only enemy in Kirby's Dream Land 3 that has two different color palettes.
