Corori

Corori is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby's Dream Land 3.

In Kirby's Dream Land 3, Corori yields no Copy Ability when inhaled. In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, it yields the Ice ability.

Physical Appearance[]

Corori is a small purple penguin roughly the same size as Kirby. Despite his small stature, Corori is able to push around massive snowballs with his stout little flippers. He has small, beady black eyes, a white stomach, and wears a knitted orange hat with a white pompom on top and small orange feet.

Kirby's Dream Land 3[]

Corori is found in cold environments. When he spots Kirby, he pushes down a large snowball about twice the size of Kirby. Usually, Corori stands perched at the top of a hill or a steep incline, making it easier to roll his snowball down. Although Corori is found exclusively in ice areas and attacks by rolling snowballs at Kirby, Corori does not give Ice.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land[]

Corori once again appears in cold environments and attacks by rolling large snowballs at Kirby. They can only be found in Winter Horns and its Isolated Isles: Forgo Dreams equivalent level, Forgo Horns. The snowballs can now be destroyed if enough damage is given to the snowballs. If a snowball rolls over Kirby, it will now flatten him. When attacked, its feet are shown for the first time. Unlike in Kirby's Dream Land 3, Corori now gives the Ice ability.

Corori Chopsticks — An overzealous Kirby accidentally ruins Corori's shot at breaking a world record.

Corori appears in the chapter "Breaking a Guinness Record with Disposable Chopsticks!" in Volume 3 of the English-translated compilation books. He is a kind, mild-mannered, and polite penguin who is very orderly about eating meals. One day while he is eating in the cafeteria of Castle Dedede, Benny, a scout for Dream Guinness Records, tells him that he has just perfectly split 23,584 pairs of disposable chopsticks in a row without even realizing it. Once Corori splits eight more pairs straight down the middle, he will be a new world record holder. (The current record holder is Flotzo.)

Corori is initially excited by the news, but quickly feels stressed from the pressure of everyone's expectations for him to break the record as word spreads around Dream Land. He becomes a celebrity, even autographing a pair of chopsticks for Ribbon. Kirby appoints himself as Corori's exclusive manager and coach, pushing him harder and heavily publicizing his final chopstick split as a major event. A large crowd and a TV news crew led by Walky gather around Corori at a ramen stand to watch him break the record. Kirby tries to motivate Corori by loudly cheering him on, but this only has the effect of making him doubt himself, as he dreads the thought of letting everyone down if he were to fail at this point. At the most crucial moment, an impatient and agitated Kirby makes himself sneeze by adding spices to his own ramen, startling Corori and tragically causing him to fail the split. In the end, the good-natured Corori doesn't get upset at Kirby, since he will still have other chances to break the record in the future. However, King Dedede is furious, and threatens to force Kirby to set "a new Guinness Record for the longest someone can go without eating." It is implied that Corori would not have had any trouble breaking the record if no one had made a big deal about it before it happened.

Although this story was not written with a particular Kirby character in mind, when drawing the artwork, author Hirokazu Hikawa decided that Corori was a perfect fit for the role due to his cuteness and modest appearance.
