Games[]

Kirby's Dream Land 3[]

Pitch

Pitch appears to be strained when he flies with Kirby. All of his abilities consist of Kirby using him as a projectile weapon.

Copy Ability Description
Burning Kirby tosses a flaming Pitch as if he was a Cutter; in the same fashion, Pitch returns after the attack. Unlike the actual Cutter ability, however, Pitch can also pick up items and fly through walls. KDL3 Burning Pitch sprite
Needle Pitch uses his beak as a 'lance' and attacks while moving in the direction of the attack. In the air, Pitch and Kirby float while doing this action. KDL3 Needle Pitch sprite
Spark Kirby holds a remote control and flies Pitch around. The player can control this attack with the +Control Pad. As a bonus, Pitch can pick up items in his 'RC' form. However, Kirby can be hurt as he is standing still controlling Pitch. Pitch can also fly through walls. KDL3 Spark Pitch sprite
Cutter Nearly the same as Rick's Cutter attack, but Pitch is the cutter, and Pitch moves much faster. As with the Burning ability combo, Pitch can pick up items and fly through walls. KDL3 Cutter Pitch sprite
Ice Pitch is cranked up and releases an icy blast of breath that can be aimed. KDL3 Ice Pitch sprite
Parasol Kirby uses the parasol as a golf club and whacks Pitch into the air. As with the Clean ability combo, the player can use the +Control Pad to control how far Pitch will fly. KDL3 Parasol Pitch sprite
Stone Kirby jumps (on the ground) into the air, Pitch turns to stone, and descends to the ground. KDL3 Stone Pitch sprite
Clean Pitch throws a blob of water. Using the +Control Pad, the player can control how far the blob of water will be thrown. KDL3 Clean Pitch sprite

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[]

Kirby's Stone Cutter Power Combo lets him turn into statues of any of his past animal friends, including Pitch. In this statue form, Kirby can temporarily fly in the style of Pitch. When landing, the statue will roll around.

Kirby Star Allies[]

Pitch appears as part of Cleaning's moveset, where he helps Kirby splash water in an arc. This attack is nearly identical to the move Pitch performs in Kirby's Dream Land 3 with the Clean ability, although it can now be charged up for a more powerful attack.

In the Super Smash Bros. series[]

Pitch appears as a spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Coo is one of Kirby's Animal Friends. He and Pitch are specialists in the air. The two of them share the same musical theme in Kirby's Dream Land 3, but it is a different one to the theme Coo debuted with in Kirby's Dream Land 2.

Etymology[]

Pitch's name could be derived from pitch, a type of throw used in baseball, perhaps to reference the fact that Pitch is mostly thrown away or throws something (like water in Clean) when using Copy Abilities with him in Kirby's Dream Land 3. His name may also derive from the Japanese term for the twitter of birds pīchiku.

Trivia[]

  • Pitch, along with ChuChu, are the only two Animal Friends who do not appear in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!. While Nago himself does not appear, the character Chef Nagoya draws heavy inspiration from him.
  • Pitch is the smallest Animal Friend.
  • Pitch is depicted with feet in Kirby's Dream Land 3, without feet in Kirby's Dream Land 3’s gameplay and Kirby Star Allies, and even with toes in the Mother's Day 2019 illustration.
