These baddies use their tongues to scoop up anything in front of them and spit them out in another place. They must think Kirby tastes like cotton candy, because they keep swallowing him over and over!
— Figurine description • Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

Warpspace is a large enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse.

Physical Appearance[]

Warpspace is a sizable mound of clay with ears, two feet, a wide mouth, and a large tongue. Depending on its color, it has between one and three eyes, each of which has a yellow pupil. A curly tail grows out of the creature's back (or, in most cases, out of the stage). This tail ends in a disc with a hole in its center.

Warpspace comes in three colors: green, red, and blue. A green Warpspace has one giant eye and one yellow spot on its tail. Some green Warpspaces are colossal in size. A red Warpspace has two medium-sized eyes and two yellow spots on its tail. A blue Warpspace has three small eyes and three yellow spots on its tail.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[]

Warpspace appears in the stage Wonder Space, as well as in Challenge Mode. It is an immobile, invincible enemy that watches Kirby at all times but cannot directly harm him. When the hero rolls or Tap Dashes past one, it grabs him with its tongue and swallows him whole. The enemy's color-coordinated tail then shoots him out with the same power as a cannon. Kirby must take advantage of this unique ability to move about the stage, destroy blocks he cannot break ordinarily, and permanently defeat Shieldsters. However, many Warpspaces act as hindrances to the pink puff, shooting him into spikes or a previous point in the stage.

Some Warpspaces are always seen sleeping. Kirby can pass if he slowly rolls by, but Tap Dashing awakens them. If Kirby charges and releases a Star Dash, any Warpspace in the area will cower in fear, allowing him passage until the Star Dash wears off.

Etymology[]

Warpspace's name is a combination of the words "warp" and "space," possibly referencing its ability to manipulate the fabric of space to transport Kirby from its mouth to its tail.

Trivia[]

  • Warpspaces behave similarly to Banishbacks, usually being an obstacle that sends Kirby back to a certain point in a room (although some assist Kirby by allowing him to progress).
