By the way, as you've been gathering Energy Spheres... Have you seen those crazy Sphere Doomers that show up from time to time? They're mysterious creatures that usually live in another dimension. Energy Spheres are their favorite snack. I'm sure that's why they're here. But I need all of my Energy Spheres back. Even the ones they've run off with!
— Magolor • Kirby's Return to Dream Land

Sphere Doomers are mid-bosses in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.

Physical Appearance[]

Each variety of Sphere Doomer has a general appearance similar to one another. They have glowing eyes on the top half of the flowing matter that consists of the sphere and their bodies. Each one has a tuft of hair on the top half and a pair of rounded wings. Their lower halves have a tail with additional tail feathers (like those of a peacock) hanging below, the amount depending on their rank.

The EX forms of Sphere Doomers have several subtle differences. They now feature only one eye instead of two, their wings and tails are more jagged than their normal counterparts, and they feature a horn instead of a tufts of hair.

Games[]

Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[]

Sphere Doomers appear in a little less than half of the stages of the game, only found at the end of the dimensional rift areas found using Super Abilities; they always hold two Energy Spheres each. The game features four main variants on the Sphere Doomer. Magolor can summon lesser versions of Sphere Doomers, Para Doomers, during his boss battle.

Sphere Doomer[]

KRtDLD Purp Doomer

Sphere Doomer

This is the first type of Sphere Doomer. It is purple, has yellow eyes, and only two tail feathers. Its basic attacking patterns set the battle structure of all the other Sphere Doomers; as such, it has no unique attacks (excluding Sphere Doomer EX, who are the only Sphere Doomers to move in a zigzag when swooping in from the background) nor Copy Abilities when their projectiles are inhaled. Regular Sphere Doomers are only encountered by entering the dimensional rifts in Cookie Country and are never seen again until Stage 3 of Dangerous Dinner, alongside its fiery counterpart.

Sphere Doomer attacks by shooting Energy Balls, either individually or in groups of three. It may also perform a Glide Body Blow, swooping down near the ground to try to hit the player. After losing half of its health, Sphere Doomer performs a Glide body Blow from the background and shoots Energy Balls in groups of two.

KRtDLD Purp Doomer EX

Sphere Doomer EX

In Extra Mode, Sphere Doomer EX uses new methods of dropping Energy Balls, such as rapidly flying across the top of the screen while dropping them, or shooting them at high velocity towards Kirby. Its background Glide Body Blow is enhanced so that it zigzags around during the attack. After losing half of its health, it spits Energy Balls in groups of four. Sphere Doomer EX can now create a Mini Black Hole in the middle of the arena, restricting the movement of the players as they are sucked toward it. These Mini Black Holes may be combined with any of the Sphere Doomer EX's attacks for a more secure hit on Kirby.

In Stage 3 of Dangerous Dinner, a Fire Sphere Doomer is fought alongside a regular Sphere Doomer. Both of these foes are powered up slightly, so the one encountered here can attack faster than the ones seen in Cookie Country.

Fire Sphere Doomer[]

KRtDLD Red Doomer

Fire Sphere Doomer

This is the second type of Sphere Doomer. It's red-orange, has yellow eyes, and three tail feathers. This variant's attacks have Sizzle properties and its Energy Balls yield the Fire ability. Fire Sphere Doomers are only encountered by entering the dimensional rifts in Raisin Ruins and Onion Ocean, as well as Stage 3 of Dangerous Dinner (with the normal one alongside).

Fire Sphere Doomers mainly attack by shooting two Energy Balls. Fire Sphere Doomers can also spin around in a circle and drop four Energy Balls or shoot three Energy Balls from midair leaving lingering flames after they explode; they can also use the Glide Body Blow. After losing half its health, it performs the Burn Attack in which it floats to the player's vertical position and then rushes forward in a fireball. It also shoots more Energy Balls and its attacks are slightly faster.

KRtDLD Red Doomer EX

Fire Sphere Doomer EX

In Extra Mode, it shoots three Energy Balls or drops four Energy Balls; it can also Glide Body Blow much faster. After losing half its health, it now performs Burn Attack & Second Attack; it starts the same as normal, but halfway through the attack, it stops and repositions itself to the target player's location before attacking a second time. It now shoots four Energy Balls and can create a Mini Black Holes.

In Stage 3 of Dangerous Dinner, as with the regular Sphere Doomer, the fire Sphere Doomer is powered up slightly and can fire off three or more Energy Balls, even in Main Mode.

Spark Sphere Doomer[]

KRtDLD Green Doomer

Spark Sphere Doomer

This is the third type of Sphere Doomer. It's green, has yellow eyes, and four tail feathers. This variant's attacks have Zap properties and its Energy Balls yield the Spark ability. Spark Sphere Doomers are only encountered by entering the dimensional rifts in White Wafers and Nutty Noon.

Spark Sphere Doomer mainly attacks by creating two homing Energy Balls, dropping three Energy Balls that leave electric sparks upon exploding, and the Glide Body Blow. After losing half its health, it performs the Lightning Strike in which it flies slowly to one side of the screen and then spin its way across to the other side, periodically sending bursts of lightning above and below itself. It can now summon four Energy Balls from the air that each send a lightning strike downward; it can also summon four homing Energy Balls. It additionally can send out three large Energy Balls that penetrate defenses.

KRtDLD Green Doomer EX

Spark Sphere Doomer EX

In Extra Mode, it shoots three Energy Balls or drops four Energy Balls; when they explode, the Energy Balls create thunderbolts upward. It now Glide Body Blows twice in a row and sends out three homing Energy Balls. After losing half its health, it now performs the Revolving Electric Shock Attack in which it flies slowly to one side and spins differently, creating a beam in the shape of an S that spins around; this can be avoided by going under it when it passes by. It sends out four or five Energy Balls and when it goes into the background, it can release four or five Energy Balls and perform the background Glide Body Blow. It can also create Mini Black Holes.

Ice Sphere Doomer[]

KRtDLD White Doomer

Ice Sphere Doomer

This is the fourth type of Sphere Doomer. It's white, has blue eyes, and five tail feathers. This variant's attacks have Blizzard properties and its Energy Balls yield the Ice ability. Ice Sphere Doomers are only encountered by entering the dimensional rifts in Egg Engines and Dangerous Dinner.

Ice Sphere Doomer mainly attacks by surrounding itself with four Energy Balls; these can be destroyed or Super Inhaled before they are fired. It can shoot multiple Energy Balls and can even throw them from the background. After losing half its health, it performs the Ice Crash attack in which it slowly flies toward a target player and then creates three icy explosions in succession. It can surround itself with Energy Balls and slowly spread them out, sending them all towards the player(s) when it is finished. All of its previous attacks are now faster and home in on the gang.

KRtDLD White Doomer EX

Ice Sphere Doomer EX

In Extra Mode, it can launch four to five homing Energy Balls. It can create a Mini Black Hole without needing to be below half health and it can Glide Body Blow three times in succession. After losing half its health, it now performs the Ice Crash Falling attack in which it teleports to a target player, falls to the ground and explodes, then repeats again before teleporting to the middle and firing four icicles that are launched to the corners upon detonation. It can use its attacks much faster and usually follow up with another. Lastly, it can perform Screen Flip, flipping the screen for three attacks before returning it to normal.

Rampaging Doomers[]

KPR Maxim Tomato Main article: Rampaging Doomers
Rampaging Doomers

The Rampaging Doomers are a group of Sphere Doomers from Another Dimension found in Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler. They have purple bodies with golden horns resembling gears. In their mouths hold pieces of a Fruit Fragment instead of an Energy Sphere. They do not produce energy balls but instead purple and yellow clouds that explode after brief while. They are also capable of making a "black hole," albeit it doesn't really "suck" Magolor in. These Doomers are fought as the boss of Locandra Dimension.

Trivia[]

  • If Kirby defeats a Sphere Doomer and replays the stage, the Energy Sphere in its body will be replaced by a Red Point Star, as all collected Energy Spheres are replaced with Red Point Stars.
  • The Ice Sphere Doomer is the only one with differently-colored eyes, having blue ones instead of yellow ones.
  • Two Sphere Doomers are fought in Stage 3 of Dangerous Dinner instead of one.
  • The Ice Sphere Doomer sounds different from the other Sphere Doomers.
  • The regular Sphere Doomer is the only Sphere Doomer to have a unique animation for the background Glide Body Blow; it keeps its wings spread out and flies normally while the others spin.
  • The theme of the Sphere Doomers is similar to Meta Knight's theme from Kirby Super Star and Miracle Matter's theme from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.
  • It is likely that Susie encountered Sphere Doomers in Another Dimension, as hinted by Holo-Doomers 2.0's flavor text.
  • The Holo-Doomer's description states the regular Sphere Doomer's coloration to be blue instead of purple. This may be because the Japanese words for red and blue, 赤色 (akairo) and 青色 (aoiro) respectively, sound similar to each other.
