Trivia[]

Vol23

Volume #23 cover of the manga.

  • Whip Kirby is an obvious passing reference to the action hero Indiana Jones, as the latter has an extensible coiled whip that can be used to grab objects. The former has the latter's fedora, except with a star motif.
  • Larger enemies, such as Pactos and Armor Dees, cannot be grabbed by the whip.
  • The whip is similar to the Yarn Whip in Kirby's Epic Yarn. Both are whips that Kirby uses to pull in enemies and items, as well as to attack. However, the Yarn Whip can only grab enemies and throw them while the whip can also be used to hit enemies.
  • Before the Whip ability debuted in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, a whip with a very similar design to that of Whip Kirby's whip appeared as a treasure in the sub-game The Great Cave Offensive.
  • On the cover of the 23rd volume of Kirby of the Stars: The Story of Dedede Who Lives In Pupupu, Kirby wears a cowboy hat resembling Whip.
  • Notes from the ESRB that explain Kirby: Triple Deluxe’s E rating explicitly mention the Whip ability, saying: "As players traverse through colorful levels, they defeat enemies by swallowing them, spitting back projectiles or using “cartoony” weapons (e.g., [sic] swords, whips, bows)."[2]
