Ravenous foes called Gobchomplins live in the cemetery. They'll gulp you down in one bite.
— Daroach • Kirby Mass Attack

Gobchomplin is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby Mass Attack.

Physical Appearance

Gobchomplin is a large, purple-black carnivorous plant with vicious teeth and a bead-like body. Growing out of its mouth is a tiny flower to attract prey.

Games

Kirby Mass Attack

Gobchomplin appears in Stage 11 of Dedede Resort and Stage 5 of Volcano Valley. It waits beneath thin floors or on the ceiling for the Kirbys to approach. When they do, the enemy will pop out of its hiding spot, snatch up one or more Kirbys in its mouth, chew on them, and spit them out. This KOs any Kirbys caught. The Kirbys will bounce off its rubbery head when flicked at it, so the player should just avoid the dangerous plant.

Gobchomplin is an invincible enemy. There are two ways to defeat it: The first is to grab Invincibility Candy and touch the enemy. The second way is more challenging; it can only defeat a single Gobchomplin in Stage 5 of Volcano Valley. Kirby must use a skull key. The Kirbys will come upon a stone block in the ceiling, concealing a skull key. Below this is a Gobchomplin. After the plant bites, the player must chisel the block. By the time he/she is done doing this, the enemy will be charging up another attack — this attack must be successful in order to defeat the Gobchomplin. While one Kirby is in the plant's mouth, another Kirby must grab the skull key. The Kirby inside the plant will be dragged into the portal with the others, destroying the Gobchomplin in the process.[1]

Etymology

Gobchomplin's name is just a combination of gobblin' and chomp, which is how the enemy attacks.
