Grab attack

From Kirby Wiki

(Redirected from Grab)

A grab attack is a type of move that Kirby can perform. Powers like Throw, Backdrop, and Suplex specialize in grabbing. Some other powers have grab attacks as well.

In Kirby's Adventure and Kirby & the Amazing Mirror, the only grab attacks were from powers that specialize in grabbing. In Kirby: Squeak Squad, several other powers featured grabbing. In Kirby Super Star, many powers had grab attacks.

A grab attack is an attack that Kirby can only perform with an enemy. For instance, Kirby can use Beam whether there is an enemy or not, but Kirby must be grabbing an enemy in order to perform a backbreaker with Suplex.

Grab attacks cannot be performed on bosses. Grabs cannot be performed on mini-bosses until the mini-boss has been defeated, and is lying on the ground. However, mini-bosses cannot be grabbed at all in Kirby Squeak Squad.

Depending on the game, grab attacks are either very powerful (Kirby Super Star) or instant kills (Kirby's Adventure, Kirby & the Amazing Mirror, and Kirby: Squeak Squad).

Powers that specialize in grabbing generally will grab someone by pressing the attack button, and then a press with a button will perform the grab attack. Kirby can do his moves that end up with an enemy being grabbed even if there is no enemy around. These powers can also grab and use blocks and stars created by bosses as weapons. Powers that don't specialize in grabbing generally grab and perform the move all at once. This is often done by → and the attack button, near an enemy. If Kirby isn't near an enemy, a different attack will probably be performed instead.
