You only spot Kekes flying through the cloud sky here and there.
— Description • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards Official Strategy Guide (Prima)

Keke (originally written KeKe) is a small, witch-like enemy in the Kirby series. Keke makes her debut as a regular enemy in Kirby's Dream Land 3, giving the Clean ability when inhaled. She appears again as a background character in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.

Appearance[]

Keke has scraggly, white hair, rosie cheeks and small, cat-like ears. She wears a flowing, purple robe and is always seen flying on a magical broom. In Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, her robe is changed to pitch black and her skin is significantly more pale.

Games[]

Kirby's Dream Land 3[]

Keke flies through the sky and often heads straight for Kirby once she lays eyes on him. She appears rather infrequently compared to her weaker, ground counterpart, Broom Hatter. Upon inhaling Keke, Kirby gains the rare Clean ability. Keke appears primarily in Cloudy Park.

When she is defeated, Keke's broom explodes (or goes into Kirby's mouth if she is subjected to his inhale) and she rolls off-screen. Adeleine does a similar action when she is defeated. Even when she is rolling, Keke can still damage Kirby, so the player must take caution around her rolling body.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[]

Keke is only a background character in this game. She cannot attack Kirby, nor can she be damaged. She appears in areas such as the run-down Ripple Star and the ruins around Rock Star, and she flies around carelessly on her broom in the background.

A creature resembling Keke can also be seen (presumably being cloned) in the factory on Shiver Star.

Etymology[]

Keke's name and design appear to be a reference to the Studio Ghibli animated film Kiki's Delivery Service. Not only does Keke share a similar name to the film's protagonist, but she also wears a similar black robe to the dress Kiki wears, and has a similar hair style. Keke's ears also bear a striking resemblance to Kiki's bow and could be a reference to her black cat: Jiji.
