You only spot Kekes flying through the cloud sky here and there.
— Description • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards Official Strategy Guide (Prima)

Keke (originally spelled KeKe) is a little witch-like character. She first appeared as a regular enemy in Kirby's Dream Land 3. Here, she, along with Broom Hatter, gave the Clean ability when inhaled. A few years later, Keke returned to the series as a background character in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. Keke has scraggly gray hair, small cat-like ears, a flowing black robe, and flies on a magical broom.

Games

Kirby's Dream Land 3

Keke flies through the sky and often heads straight for Kirby once she lays eyes on him. She appears rather infrequently compared to her weaker, ground counterpart, Broom Hatter. If Kirby inhales Keke, he gains the rare Clean ability. She appears primarily in Cloudy Park.

When Keke is defeated, her broom explodes (or goes into Kirby's mouth if he inhales her) and she rolls off-screen. A similar action is done by Ado and Adeleine when they are defeated. Even when she is rolling, she can still damage Kirby, so the player must take caution around her rolling body.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Keke is only a background character in this game. She cannot attack Kirby nor can she be damaged. She appears in areas such as the rundown Ripple Star and the ruins around Rock Star and flies around on her broom in the background without minding Kirby.

A creature resembling Keke can also be seen (presumably being cloned) in the factory on Shiver Star.

Etymology

Keke's name and design appears to be a reference to the Studio Ghibli animated film Kiki's Delivery Service. Not only does Keke share a similar name to the film's protagonist, but she also wears a similar black robe to the dress Kiki wears and has a similar hair style. Keke's ears also bear a striking resemblance to Kiki's bow.
