There's a medal even better than gold. Have you ever earned one?
— Item Challenge Pro Tip #3 • Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

Medals are special items that can be collected and can also be used to unlock new items in-game that can't be unlocked otherwise. In many cases, they are awarded to the player after a stage or sub-game is completed based on the score the player has achieved.

Games[]

Kirby's Dream Course[]

Medals first appear in Kirby's Dream Course, where they are earned based on the player's performance in each course, specifically the amount of shots to get through all eight holes. The player can unlock new features by getting certain types of medals on all courses.

  • Bronze: Unlock Extra Course for 2Play Game.
  • Silver: Unlock Extra Courses for 1Play Game.
  • Gold: Unlock Map Select for Normal Course.
  • Bronze EX: Unlock Sound Room.
  • Silver EX: Unlock Dance Select.

Kirby: Canvas Curse[]

Medals are scattered around all the levels in the game; there are a total of 250 medals in the whole game. In Main Game, each stage has a total of three medals, meaning nine medals in every level; Level 8, The World of Drawcia, is an exception, which only features one "stage" with two medals. This means there are 65 total medals obtainable in Main Game, as there are seven main levels in addition to Level 8. In Rainbow Run, each stage has six medals, three each for Time Trial and Line Trial, meaning 18 medals in every level; Level 8 is replaced by the Special Course, which features eight stages that must be unlocked in Medal Swap. This means there are 174 total medals obtainable in Rainbow Run, as there are seven main levels with 18 medals in addition to Special Course's 48 medals. As such, there are 239 total medals in Main Game and Rainbow Run combined. In order to obtain the remaining eleven medals, the player must complete the game with every unlockable character (one medal each for Waddle Dee Ball and Waddle Doo Ball, three medals for Dedede Ball, and two medals for Meta Knight Ball, for a total of seven medals; Dedede Ball and Meta Knight Ball must be unlocked in Medal Swap), get an A rank on the Level 3 difficulty of each Subgame (one medal each for a total of three medals), and obtain the medal located at the 1500 inch mark in the unlockable Jump Game.

Unlike other collectibles hidden in stages, once a medal is obtained, it cannot be lost, either by quitting the stage, turning off the Nintendo DS system, etc.

Locations[]

Reddy Land[]
Plant Plain[]
  1. First room: follow the Point Stars.
  2. Second room: destroy the Bomb Blocks.
  3. Third room: go over the goal to the overhang above and to the left of it; a Mini Cannon, hidden in the large Star Blocks to the right of the goal, can launch the player upward to make this easier.

  1. First room: after the Checkpoint, take the pipe and fall into the second gap in the floor.
  2. Second room: after the Room Guarder take the Super Cannon, then turn around to the right instead of the left; an orange Action Block is in the way until the Big Switch in Iello Adventure's Rift Ruin is activated.
  3. Third room: in the area with a Checkpoint, drop between the set of spikes on the floor.
Ravine Road[]
  1. First room: after the Checkpoint and Dash Panel, use the updraft to float upward and then head to the overhang to the left.
  2. Second room: go to the overhang just above the start of the room and obtain Missile from Bang-Bang. Fly straight to the right to destroy the Missile Ability Blocks.
  3. Third room: take the lower path (which does not have a Checkpoint) and destroy the Bomb Block.
Arange Gorge[]

  2. Second room: get Spark from Sparky. There are two Sparkys in the room, the first of which can be found by going over the Mini Cannon and falling downward; the second is located higher up. Upon reaching the area with the Mini Cannons and spring, redirect Kirby to the right after being lauched from the Mini Cannon. Use Spark to destroy the Spark Ability Blocks.

Contrast Cave[]
  1. First room: after destroying the two large Star Blocks, turn to the right after falling off the platform. Destroy the large Star Block.

Continue to the left, then float to the top. Discard Stone and obtain Crash from Bomber. Go to the bottom and use Crash to activate the Switch. While Kirby has Crash, Kirby may not use the Touch Dash to descend quicker, as it will activate Crash and discard the ability as a result.
  3. Third room: take the rightmost path in the Noise Zone and enter the door at its bottom. The rightmost path is most easily reached by using Burning or alternatively by entering the path from the bottom instead of the top; a green Action Block is in the way until the Big Switch in Bloo Hills's Cold Course is activated.

Dreamy Darkness[]
  1. First room: after the third Checkpoint, follow the Point Stars. Obtain Needle from Tick. Backtrack to the first Checkpoint, then fall down to the right. Use Needle to destroy the Needle Ability Blocks.
  2. Second room: use Needle to destroy the Ability Blocks, then follow the Point Stars upward. If Kirby does not have Needle, there is a Tick above that Kirby can obtain it from, being careful not to go above the platform.
  3. Fourth room: follow the Point Stars to the Lantern, then backtrack to destroy the Bomb Block.

Follow the Point Stars to the left side before being blocked off by riding rainbows over the two gaps. Activate the second Switch and follow the Point Stars to the right side before being blocked off by riding a rainbow over the spikes and gap, destroying the Ability Blocks. Activate the third Switch and follow the Point Stars to the left side by riding a rainbow over the spikes into the Super Cannon, then fire before being blocked off.
  3. Third room: destroy the Crumble Walls below and go to the left.
Canvas Canyon[]
  1. First room: after the Checkpoints, ascend upward and enter the hidden Door at the top of the room. It is located directly above the fourth diagonal Mini Cannon to the right of the Checkpoints and before the Blade Bar.
  2. Second room: after the first Checkpoint, fall between the two Pactos.
  3. Third room: after the first Checkpoint, enter the Super Cannon. 2. Second room: obtained Freeze from Snoppy by ascending between the two Noise Zones after the second Checkpoint in the first room. Continue to the right in the second room and use Freeze to destroy the Freeze Ability Blocks to activate the Switch. After the second Checkpoint, take the Crane to the medal, being careful to avoid the Volcanic Bombs being ejected from the lava below.
  3. Fourth room: after the Checkpoint, take the upward path and activate the Switch. Backtrack and take the lower path when the lava has lowered. Dash to the medal before the lava rises again, as its alcove is the only safe spot on the lower path.
Silent Seabed[]
  1. First room: after the first Checkpoint, take the pipe at the bottom. Reposition the Movement Block to reveal a hidden Door. Enter the Door.
  2. Second room: after the second Checkpoint, continue right into the Noise Zone instead of following the Point Star arrow downward.

Kirby Mass Attack[]

Dimensional rift C Bsn 8VwAIzPgw.jpg large transparent "Rainbow medal" redirects here. For other uses, see Rainbow (disambiguation)

The medals make another appearance in Kirby Mass Attack, having the same purpose as they did in Kirby: Canvas Curse. They can be found in all stages (except for boss stages), with each stage containing either three or five medals. Items are now unlocked automatically in the Extras, which can be accessed in any level on the upper left part of the Touch Screen. Based on how many medals the player has, different unlockables can be unlocked such as sub-games and the common Sound Player.

Medals come in a normal gold color, while there are some that are bright rainbow colors. These are known as rainbow medals, which are said to contain incredible energy. Rainbow medals are important to collect, as they are necessary to unlock the island of Necro Nebula. If the Kirbys miss a medal in a stage, they can visit Daroach's Airship to get a hint from Daroach about its location.

Because Kirby obtains physical medals in stages, the player is awarded stars for reaching exit doors; as such, they serve as rewards rather than collectible items. He/she earns a gold star by completing the stage without taking damage, a silver star by completing the stage without letting any Kirbys be KO'd, and a bronze star by completing the stage without losing a Kirby completely. If the player loses a Kirby, uses a Shortcut Door, or fails the stage, the player is awarded nothing. Various Checklist tasks require the player to achieve gold or silver stars.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition, and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[]

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition, medals are awarded after Kirby completes a Challenge stage. He can earn a bronze, silver, gold, or platinum medal depending on his score.

In Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler (exclusive to Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe), medals are awarded based on how many Magic points are collected. Collecting a gold or platinum medal on every stage is required to unlock the Extra Stage.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe[]

Medals are obtained like in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition, though Challenge stages do not return. King Dedede can win his own medals in Kirby: Triple Deluxe’s Dedede's Drum Dash sub-game (as well as the downloadable Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe).

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[]

Medals reappear in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. They are awarded after a stage is completed based on the number of stars Kirby collected. The possible medal types are bronze, silver, and gold. Kirby can unlock Challenges by collecting a certain number of gold medals. When he collects them all, he unlocks the Drawcia figurine.

Kirby: Planet Robobot, Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, and Super Kirby Clash[]

Kirby can win medals in Kirby: Planet Robobot’s Team Kirby Clash sub-game, as well as Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash. If the player earns a platinum medal on every quest in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, the message: "Platinum on All Quests!" appears upon collecting the 42nd platinum medal. In Super Kirby Clash, the time for earning a platinum medal is specified, unlike the former games, and the message for collecting all 108 Platinum medals has been changed to "Earned all Platinum Medals!".

Kirby Battle Royale[]

Medals serve as a sort of achievement list, and give the player Battle Coins. They appears as stars, colored bronze, silver, or gold depending on the difficulty of the task, on a ribbon.
