Sawyers—buzz saws that chase you down—can either be avoided with a quick jump or inhaled so Kirby can copy their cutter power.
— Description • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards Official Strategy Guide (Prima)

Sawyer is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. It gives the Cutter ability when inhaled.

Physical Appearance[]

Sawyer resembles a buzz saw blade with a red eye in the center.

Sawyers have a nearly identical appearance as the Grinder enemies from Super Mario World and Super Mario Galaxy 2, and behave very similarly as well.

Games[]

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[]

Sawyer move back and forth along the ground, popping up slightly before turning. Big Sawyer appears in Stage 1 of Ripple Star as a Room Guarder; in addition to summoning Bronto Burts, one at a time, that flies back and forth, Big Sawyer emerges from and hides in the ground, alternating between appearing o the right side and the left side of the arena. It takes six hits to defeat and drop the stage's second Crystal Shard when defeated.

Kirby Star Allies[]

During the mid-boss fight with Vividria, she can paint Sawyer on a canvas and bring it to life.

Etymology[]

Sawyer's name is derived from the term referring to a person who saws wood. Sawyer is also an English surname, and its name could be a reference to the American fictional character Tom Sawyer.

Its Japanese name, ノコギ (Nokogi), comes from the Japanese word for "saw," ノコギリ/のこぎり/鋸 (nokogiri).
