Shipwreck Octopus is a giant pale blob with eight stubby tentacles. It has two red eyes spaced far apart with a huge pair of pink lips between them. A purplish spot and a flashing star can be seen above the creature's right eye. The octopus holds a big, abandoned ship over its body. The ship is old, gray, and barnacle-encrusted; it has tattered sails, four portholes, an anchor, and a mast.
Shipwreck Octopus' Japanese name suggests that it is related to Flotzo, though its appearance and characteristics barely support this.
Shipwreck Octopus appears in one stage in the game: Stage 3 of Onion Ocean. It can be found at the end of the stage. When Kirby approaches it, the creature covers itself with its shipwreck--it occasionally lifts the wreck up for a second to peek out. Kirby takes damage if he touches it.
Shipwreck Octopus is immune to all but one ability: Monster Flame. Kirby cannot defeat the leviathan when it's covered by the ship, so he must let loose his attack when the octopus lifts it up. When hit, the creature tosses the shipwreck up and bursts into blue flames. It then disintegrates into a lump of ash, and a dimensional rift appears in its place.
- If Kirby tries to float past the shipwreck, he runs into an invisible wall. Kirby can travel inside the octopus, but he cannot float up to the ceiling; it seems the only part of Shipwreck Octopus Kirby cannot pass through is the shipwreck itself.
- An early version of Shipwreck Octopus is depicted in concept artwork for Kirby GCN, the unreleased game that was reworked into Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
