Totenga is an enemy in the Kirby series, debuting in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. It yields the Needle ability when inhaled.

Physical Appearance

Totenga is a small orange sphere with a single eye with three pink spikes protruding its sides and top and a cactus-like vine growing from its bottom.

Games

Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

The enemy doesn't attack and merely serves as an obstacle to hinder the player. Totenga's head can only be defeated once its vine is destroyed, which can take several hits. As a simple head, Totenga can be inhaled or defeated with any other attack.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Totenga returns in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, now in a 3D environment. While its vine body is still fully outstretched, it will now move from side to side in an attempt to hit Kirby, as opposed to standing in one place.

Etymology

Totenga is a portmanteau of the word "totem," トーテム (tōtemu); the Japanese word for cactus, サボテン/さぼてん (saboten); and possibly the Japanese word for thorn, とげ/刺 (toge).
