Wapod is a Waddle Dee-like enemy from Kirby's Dream Land 3. It also appears in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. It looks like a ghost-like Waddle Dee, which has a tail, and lives in a jar. When Kirby approaches the jar, it comes out of it in the manner of a genie from a lamp and wag its tail in place, but doesn't do anything else.

When one Wapod is defeated, another will come out of the same jar and take its place, so Kirby has to break the jar to defeat it for good.

Although its resemblance to Waddle Dees is uncanny, nothing in the games confirm any relation between the two. However, several of the non-canon official 4koma manga strips pick up on the similarities and present Wapods as the ghosts of Waddle Dees which Kirby defeated in past encounters.

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Wapod appears in a few levels. They have changed in this game; they now lack arms and float high into the sky, rather than staying just above their jars. One can find a name for Wapod's pot inside the coding of the game. These pots are called Wapod Pots.

Wapod also appears as a common keychain in Kirby: Triple Deluxe, using its sprite from Kirby's Dream Land 3.

Etymology

Wapod's name seems to be a combination of Waddle Dee and pot or pod.
