Jungle dwellers, Yarikos throw spears at Kirby when he gets too close. Be very careful—Yarikos are usually perched high up on platforms where you can't see them until their spears are rushing toward you.
— Description • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards Official Strategy Guide (Prima)

Yariko is a spear-wielding foe that appears to be the female counterpart of the Yabans from Kirby's Dream Land 3. She is a little neanderthal / caveman-esque girl with black eyes and red hair held up in a topknot by a yellow bow, and her only piece of clothing is a brown, one-piece cloth over her body that resembles an animal skin. She is always seen toting a sharp little spear. Yariko often spends her time standing on high platforms minding her own business, but she'll jump up and chuck her spear at Kirby once she spots him. She will continue to do this until defeated or left alone, as she carries an endless supply of spears to throw. Two sets of Yarikos even appear during a mid-boss fight against the Big Galbo in the first stage of Neo Star. Yariko is often deemed by fans of the series as one of the most annoying enemies in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards because of her deadly accuracy.

Yariko is noticeably smaller and much faster than Yaban.

Yariko's name appears to be a combination of words yari and ko, which mean spear and child in Japanese. Given Japanese names that end in "-ko" are also commonly feminine, which suggests their intended gender along with their choice of clothing.
